Wine / grape juice is poured into a cup, filling it up to the brim. A cup is taken in the right hand, then a blessing is recited, followed by drinking this cup of wine.
It is customary to drink this cup (like the other 3 symbolic cups during this evening) while sitting, slightly leaning on the left arm, which symbolizes liberation from slavery: only free people (not slaves!) could eat and drink feeling relaxed, while leaning on pillows.
1. Baruch atah Adonai, Eloheinu melech haolam, borei p’ri hagafen.
Blessed are You, Adonai our God, Ruler of the world, Creator of the fruit of the vine.
